The Sony WH-1000XM4 emerged victorious from its sibling battle with the WH-1000XM3!

We often talk about a new bounty, yet the WH-1000XM4 proved to be more straightforward than its successor during a duel between them. This time, and when it is older, it is the WH-1000XM3 that is brilliantly defending itself against its descendant. Despite the years and technological additions, it has comfort, ergonomics and sound reproduction almost identical to the indestructible XM4. But he failed to hit him.

The Sony WH-1000XM3 was a success, and keen to maintain the same quality, Sony made only minor modifications to the 1000XM4. The result is that two belligerents are very close and it is difficult to choose between them. This is evidenced by the almost unchanged design, and therefore offers the same level of comfort, which is already beyond reproach.

Sound reproduction is also similar between two Sony spearheads, designed with the same mold. Very high standard, sound quality makes them among the best on the market. We do note, however, that the WH-1000XM4 is a bit softer and more stable thanks to the more pronounced mids/trebles, which is a matter of taste. The same note regarding active noise reduction and autonomy, the two Sony headphones offer almost identical services.

In terms of features, the WH-1000XM4 manages to slightly outperform its predecessor. In fact, it is more modern and includes a port sensor that allows to cut off and resume the current reading automatically and suggest the standby mode automatically as well. Additionally, the WH-1000XM3 doesn’t take advantage of the multi-point Bluetooth connection behind it, allowing two devices to be paired simultaneously. More lively, the XM4 is much faster in the Quick Attention function, and therefore more flexible and natural for listening to ambient noise.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 managed to snatch victory again, but by a very small percentage. If more tech with its port sensor and multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, the WH-1000XM3 doesn’t conflict with its successor and offers identical services on the basics. As we said at the conclusion of the duel, the WH-1000XM3 may be a loser in the duel, but it remains an excellent option, especially if we take into account its selling price, which regularly benefits from promotions.
