Three smartphones under 500 euros not to be missed this summer

A (very) good smartphone for under 500 euros? Some manufacturers haven’t waited for the start of the school year to launch some exciting new products in the middle of summer. Motorola and its Edge 30, nothing and its phone (1), or even Google and Pixel 6a, try to seduce with a balanced and efficient technology offering that decodes “20 minutes” in order to better help you choose.

Motorola edge 30, almost perfect balance

Motorola is revisiting its smartphone lineup with more consistency and that’s a good thing! This Edge 30 is part of the American manufacturer’s (Lenovo-owned) mid-range/premium offering and benefits from a well-balanced technical sheet. Under Android 12, it’s powered by the Snapdragon 778G+ processor (the same as the Nothing Phone One), which allows it to be faster in most uses.

Without too many compromises on the image (though it loses the 3x optical zoom of its predecessor, the Edge 20, in favor of a perfect 10x digital zoom), it’s definitely a major key. It was announced as the world’s thinnest 5G smartphone (at 6.8 mm thick, versus just 155 grams), but it suffers from a battery that has a fairly light autonomy compared to its competitors. 499 euros (8 GB / 128 GB).

Battery: 4020 mAh. 33W compatible (block included). Not compatible with wireless charging.

Google Pixel 6a, the picture is greater!

Mountain View presents this entry-level Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 smartphone whose tech features seem to be exploding hot and cold.

While the Pixel 6a’s display only offers a 60Hz refresh rate (as in entry-level smartphones), the hardware is IP67 standard (a feature meant for high-end devices!). While it is put on the picture quality, its memory does not exceed 128 GB …

Despite this kind of large gap or discrepancy, there is still a well-balanced camera that will appeal to photo enthusiasts in the first place. Even if those two rear sensors only offer 12MP, Google knows how to step it up with algorithms and artificial intelligence. Behind the scenes, a super powerful Tensor chip from the manufacturer is in the works and it shows. Of course, an unusual looking device with its imposing strip of rear sensors can confuse (or please, totally!), but this smartphone is able to distinguish itself and offer, without too many technical compromises, an excellent device with indisputable performance / price. 459 euros (6 GB / 128 GB).

Screen: 6.1 inch OLED (2400 x 1080 pixels) 60Hz.

Nothing phone (1), a little green noise

“We wanted to have fun as a user, to bring the excitement back to tech products,” 20 Minutes co-founder of Nothing recently explained. She won her phone (1), so the company predicted a unique smartphone, the noise ! Behind a potentially divisive design, with a transparent glass back cover, the Android device reveals an original interface.

It’s called the Glyph, and it allows you to notify you with a flashing LED on the back, phone calls, messages… Best of all, these LED lights also work as a flash, with a more natural effect on the skin. Mild.

Delivering very correct performance, especially in photos, with only two rear sensors (like it’s possible!), Nothing Phone (1) is a fast and smooth mid-range Android smartphone. He also tries to claim some sustainable ambitions: “We reach 50% of plastics recycled. But it has been difficult to find the right suppliers. There is still room for improvement. We hope to be able to make a difference,” we assure in Nothing. 469 euros (12 GB / 128 GB).
